Figural pipe in progress

Where there is smoke...

Downie Pipes and Esoterica...

Pipe making started out as a hobby on the weekends while I was working in the Vancouver film industry.  A 15-hour workday on set, or in the editing studio does not make for an available father, so when my wife and I discovered she was pregnant I took my hobby of pipe making and expanded it into a business.  The learning curve was steep but with the help of pipe makers like Mark Tinsky and Trever Talbert, I was eventually able to learn which side of the sandpaper to use.

Making classic pipe shapes is something I absolutely love. It's the test of a true pipe maker if they can make a Billiard that's balanced and proportioned from bowl to shank to stem.  That said, I also enjoy taking my pipes in more esoteric and artistic directions.  Figural pipes and other sculpture-based pipes have become a large part of my business.

Sculptured pipes eventually expanded into straight sculpture, and now I offer my services as a sculptor as well as a pipe maker.
